Travel
On 07/31, Steve, Jean, Kari and Amanda left their home in Gambrills, MD bound for Mt. Pleasant, SC. Son Robert had already arrived in Mt. Pleasant when his grandfather picked him up the week before. Normally this trip takes us about 11 hours, and we usually have 5 or 6 dogs with us. This year we had a house-sitter for the vacation, so all the foster dogs got to stay home instead of visiting doggie day-care sites in the Charleston, SC area. Traffic was light, and without the dogs, we covered the 528 miles in a little over 9 hours. The highlight for Amanda is that we let her drive from Emporia, VA to Marion, SC.
The next day, we left Mt. Pleasant, along with Jean's parents and Robert, and headed for Tampa, FL. Traffic again was not too bad, and we arrived safely at the Chase Suite Hotel in Tampa. We had booked two rooms there to spend the night. As part of the "Snooze and Cruise" deal we booked, we would leave our cars there for the week. The hotel shuttle would take us to the port and back. That made the cost of the hotel not all that much more than it would cost to park at the port for the week. The rooms were efficiencies, with a small kitchen, 2 double beds, and small living area. Nice for one night, but the small beds (note "double", not "queen" or "king") are not where I would want to spend any length of time.
